The 2008 FBINAA West Point Conference
Committee is in the process of preparing an
outstanding training agenda for this summer. Due to the ever-increasing
advances and
challenges facing law enforcement, “Technology in Law
Enforcement Training” has been
selected as the theme for the 2008 Conference. Presentations
and hands-on learning
opportunities will focus upon such areas as the use of simulations,
interactive gaming, and
Web-based collaborative learning. Delegates will experience
how technology can leverage
training. Administrators and managers from large, small, rural
and urban law enforcement
agencies will experience what is currently available and what
types of educational technology is
on the horizon. Among the presenters at the 2008 Conference
will be Elliott Masie, an
internationally recognized leader in technology and learning.
Founder of the Masie Center, a
learning lab and think tank in Saratoga Springs, NY, Elliott
serves as an advisor to a wide range
of government, education and nonprofit groups. He serves on
several colleges’ Boards of
Trustees, as a Board member of national corporations and organizations,
and is appointed to the Central Intelligence Agency University’s
board of visitors. Mr. Masie has addressed more than 2 million
individuals around the globe. Also presenting at the conference
will be Joseph Latta (146th Session) Executive Director of
the International Association for Property and Evidence, Inc.
(I.A.P.E.) Joe, along with Bill Kiley (146th Session) will
present "Chief, the evidence is missing: Considerations
about storage, security and accountability of evidence."
Other training topics that are planned for the Conference
are:
- Training Incident Command Assistance Teams using interactive
training
- Interactive firearms training systems
- State-of-the-art first responder emergency driving simulators
- Learning Management Systems – delivery and documentation
of training
- Web-based, distance education in training and higher education
- Potential of Web-based “social networking” to
enhance law enforcement training
- Internet delivered live and on-demand training for LEOs
